We can have willpower of steel and a firm clamp on our cravings and still cringe when we step on the scale. The latest research shows that snacking is not to blame for our weight loss woes, the hidden culprit keeping us from our prized dress size is probably alcohol.

According to the study reported by The Daily Mail:

  • People tend to underestimate the number of calories alcohol contains compared to food.
  • Five pints of lager a week adds up to 44,200k calories over a year, equivalent to eating 221 doughnuts.
  • Two large glasses of white wine will take up nearly a fifth of a woman’s recommended calorie intake for a day.

So if you find yourself flailing at the shallow end of a diet, consider limiting your alcohol intake and see if it makes a difference.
