Te-Erika’s Diary: I am a Black Blogger, But I’m Not

I am a black female. I identify as such because it makes me feel beautiful to think about my skin color. I feel exotic, sexy and intriguing, just because I am a black woman.

Yes, I am a black blogger and while most other black or African American bloggers choose to blog for a black audience, I do not.

Why not?

I don’t want to.

From a business standpoint it makes no sense. I am sure the niche bloggers would say that targeting a specific group will yield better results in traffic and audience growth but I don’t follow the rules usually. But really, if I were to target only black women, I really believe that it would limit my scope of influence. If there are 10 women in the room and 4 of them are black and I have a seminar to teach or a book to sell, why would I only target 4 people instead of all 10? How is that smart, from a business standpoint?

I blog for women. All women.

Our experiences are universal. Every woman can come to me, be treated fairly by me and receive the same support. Our vaginas unite us and I use that as a marker to identify the group of people I want to help evolve through my unique wisdom.

I’m still learning and growing and I may not have all the answers but I will admit, I have most of them. I figured them out for myself and I am stronger than I have ever been. Why would I limit that information to a group of people just because they have the same skin color I have?

This isn’t an US versus THEM thing. This is a WOMAN thing. The sooner we can all decide that we aren’t each other’s enemies and are in fact, viable allies for growth we will become unstoppable.

That is where I am trying to lead the goddesses who peruse my blog. You really are invincible. You just don’t know it yet.
